OnePlus, Reliance Jio open 5G lab

Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus and Reliance Jio partnered to set up a 5G innovation lab in India. 

In a press release, the companies detailed the hub will host a space for the testing and development of new 5G technologies. The companies did not detail where the lab will be set up. 

Jio launched 5G nationwide in less than a year and gained 90 million subscribers at the end of 2023. 

Jio claimed its network accounts for 85% of 5G base stations launched in India. Other 5G innovation centres have been launched by Ericsson and Nokia, in 2018 and 2023 respectively. Nokia’s Bangalor lab is also delving into the possibilities of 6G.
