AirTrunk enters Indian data centre market with Lumina CloudInfra acquisition

Hyperscale data centre platform AirTrunk has announced the acquisition of Lumina CloudInfra, a developer of large-scale data centres with a strong presence in India.

The deal, says AirTrunk, marks its entry into one of the world’s fastest-growing digital and AI infrastructure markets.

The transaction will give AirTrunk immediate access to Lumina’s development pipeline, existing contracts and relationships and operating capabilities. This includes, the company says, an approximately 600MW portfolio of planned capacity, representing up to US$5 billion of future development potential. The platform will continue to be supported by long-term capital from alternative asset manager Blackstone and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board.

Post acquisition, AirTrunk says it will scale to more than over 3GW of operating and planned capacity, across 20 campuses in six operating regions (Australia, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong and India), reinforcing its position as a leading global APAC hyperscale platform.

India, says the company, is witnessing a rapid increase in demand for data. National installed data centre capacity is set to grow from roughly 1.5GW in 2025 to around 10GW by 20301, fuelled by widespread cloud adoption, 5G expansion, tightening data sovereignty rules and the world’s largest mobile user base.

In addition, the country’s ambition to become a global AI powerhouse is backed by a major government drive to build sovereign AI capability as part of the IndiaAI Mission initiative. This is creating strong, nationwide demand for hyperscale and AI-ready data centres.

Lumina is described as a scaled and established data centre platform in India, with operations across three Tier 1 markets in India – Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad. The business brings deep execution capability, a proven development pipeline and a clear focus on AI-ready, energy-efficient infrastructure.

By combining AirTrunk’s global hyperscale expertise, supply‑chain strength and long‑standing relationships with the world’s largest cloud and AI customers with Lumina’s scale and market leadership, the integrated AirTrunk and Lumina platform is positioned to accelerate delivery of next‑generation digital infrastructure.
