State-owned Ethio Telecom announced on Wednesday it has launched a national digital signature platform for document authentication and attorney licensing in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, and the Federal Documents Authentication and Registration Service.
The solution, dubbed “teleSign” interconnects government systems to establish a trusted national digital signature infrastructure, enabling Ethiopian citizens inside and outside the country to securely access government services online.
Ethio Telecom said the solution integrates advanced AI-powered video-based identification and liveness detection with Ethiopia’s Fayda National Digital ID system to ensure trusted remote authentication without requiring physical presence, making the entire process digital end-to-end.
That includes payments, as the teleSign service is integrated with Ethio Telecom’s telebirr mobile money platform.
Ethio Telecom said that teleSign effectively enables citizens locally and abroad to access and pay for government services 24/7, reducing traditional processing times from weeks to just a few minutes, whilst also advancing Ethiopia’s transition toward a fully digital government ecosystem
Ethio Telecom added that teleSign also enables citizens to legally grant or revoke power of attorney digitally, eliminating the need for physical presence at embassies, consulates, or government offices.
The platform’s digitized workflows allow citizens and organizations to authenticate legal documents and enabling legal practitioners to issue or renew attorney licenses remotely from any location.
Citizens can access teleSign services via the new teleSign app or teleSign website.
