Telekom Malaysia (TM) announced on Friday that it has become the first telco in the country to obtain certification for the ISO/IEC 42001:2023 Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS) standard.
TM said it achieved ISO/IEC 42001 certification via its own AI Centre of Excellence and independently validation by Malaysian certification, inspection and testing body SIRIM QAS International.
First published in 2023, ISO/IEC 42001 is designed for organisations providing or utilizing AI-based products or services to addresses challenges unique to AI, such as ethical considerations, transparency, and continuous learning.
The standard specifies requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving an AIMS within organizations, with the goal of ensuring responsible development and use of AI systems, and balancing innovation with governance.
TM said the certification indicates that its AI systems are developed and deployed with rigorous governance, ethical safeguards, and robust risk management.
TM group CEO Amar Huzaimi Md Deris said the certification supports the telco’s role as a reliable digital infrastructure and solutions partner providing a trusted foundation for organisations to build new AI-driven solutions within clear, auditable guidelines.
“As the first telco to be certified to ISO/IEC 42001:2023, TM gains a strategic advantage to pioneer structured and safe AI practices, enabling us to guide organisations with greater foresight as the nation advances toward a more innovative and trusted digital ecosystem,” he said in a statement.
