SHB (Saigon-Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank) has enlisted Huawei as a strategic advisor as it seeks to move towards a more digitised operating model.
Under the agreement, Huawei will help to design architecture for SHB’s digital infrastructure, build data platforms for the bank, and help to modernise its operations while providing enhanced security.
Huawei will advise SHB on implementing data and AI solutions that will help the bank gain greater insight into customer behaviour, allowing it to appraise demand, assess risk, and provide products tailored to individual customers. The vendor has form in this sector, having worked with other lenders in Vietnam - such as Home Credit, SCB, and SeABank – by providing solutions in areas such as data analytics, cloud, and security.
SHB described the agreement as part of a push towards “open, flexible, and future-ready technology architecture”, while Huawei’s Asia-Pacific enterprise president Spawn Fan described the move as “an important milestone in the group's market expansion in Vietnam", reports Reuters.
Vietnamese operators procured their 5G licences in 2024 and began deploying networks that year, with Ericsson and Nokia the big winners for these contracts. Despite this, Reuters notes that Huawei has reportedly since won a few 5G contracts in the market, underlining the vendor’s ambitions to increase its presence in Vietnam.
