Indian mine hosts private 5G proof of concept

Private 5G continues to make steady inroads into the Indian market. Advanced 5G infrastructure specialist Tidal Wave Technologies and mission-critical communication solutions provider Consort Digital say they have successfully completed a pilot project for 5G-based mission-critical communications for the first time at a mine in India.

The pilot, or proof of concept (PoC), was demonstrated using the MCX ONE mission-critical communication platform, developed by Consort on the private 5G network provided by Tidal Wave Technologies at the Amlohri Coal Mine, in Madhya Pradesh, a state in central India, operated by Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a subsidiary of state-run Coal India.

The partners say that the demonstration, conducted over Tidal Wave’s private 5G network and powered by Consort Digital’s MCX ONE platform, marks a milestone as the first pilot project of its kind in India, tailored for the mining sector.

The pilot integrated Consort Digital’s MCX ONE platform with Tidal Wave’s private 5G network, connecting 5G drones, cameras and environmental sensors from multiple OEMs. The pilot validated the solution’s interoperability, scalability, and readiness for real-world mission-critical deployments.

Ankit Dixit, CEO, Tidal Wave Technologies, says: “We are proud to partner with Consort Digital to bring advanced 5G-based solutions to critical industries such as mining. The PoC at Amlohri Coal Mine showcases how private 5G networks can deliver the resilience, security, and high performance needed for mission-critical operations.”

Sarabjeet Bhasin, Technical Director, Consort Digital adds: “This PoC proves the readiness of our solution for real-world deployments while laying the foundation for the transition from narrowband to broadband and from TETRA [terrestrial trunked radio] to 5G.”
